Vision Based Hand Gesture Recognition for Indian Sign Languages

چکیده
Sign Language is a language which uses visually transmitted sign patterns to convey meaning by simultaneously combining hand shapes, orientation and movement of the hands to fluently express one's thoughts / communicate with others and is commonly used by the physically impaired people who cannot speak or hear. Automatic Sign Language system requires fast and accurate techniques for identifying static signs or a sequence of produced signs to help interpret their correct meaning. Major component of a Sign Language is Hand Gesture Recognition. Gestures are powerful means of communication among humans. It may be based on hand, body, lip movements (speech expression), eye movements, facial expression (mood/emotions) of the human. Among all, hand gesture is the easiest and most natural way of communication between people. With the latest advances in the field of computer vision, image processing and pattern recognition, real -time vision-based hand gesture classification is belonging more and more feasible for human-computer interaction in virtual environments. Hand gestures are an intuitive yet powerful communication modality which has not been fully explored for Human Computer Interaction. Sign language study shows that among various gesture communication modalities, hand gesture plays significant role. This research aim towards working on hand gesture recognition for sign language interpretation as a HCI application.

Study of Vision Based Hand Gesture Recognition Using Indian Sign Language
Human Computer Interaction moves forward in the field of sign language interpretation. Indian Sign Language (ISL) Interpretation system is a good way to help the Indian hearing impaired people to interact with normal people with the help of computer. As compared to other sign languages, ISL interpretation has got less attention by the researcher. In this paper, some historical background, need,...

Indian Sign Language (ISL) or Indo-Pakistani Sign Language is possibly the prevalent sign language variety in South Asia used by at least several hundred deaf signers. It is different in the phonetics, grammar and syntax from other country’s sign languages. Since ISL got standardized only recently, there is very little research work that has happened in ISL recognition. Considering the challeng...

متن کاملA Vision-Based Approach for Indian Sign Language Recognition
The sign language is the essential communication method between the deaf and dumb people. In this paper, the authors present a vision based approach which efficiently recognize the signs of Indian Sign Language (ISL) and translate the accurate meaning of those recognized signs. A new feature vector is computed by fusing Hu invariant moment and structural shape descriptor to recognize sign. A mu...

Indian Sign Language (ISL) interpretation is the major research work going on to aid Indian deaf and dumb people. Considering the limitation of glove/sensor based approach, vision based approach was considered for ISL interpretation system. Among different human modalities, hand is the primarily used modality to any sign language interpretation system so, hand gesture was used for recognition o...
